Whether you are in Milan for tourism or you live here, Aldo Coppola salons are a destination you cannot miss. You’ll discover a hairstyling brand that’s been inextricably linked to the world of international fashion and styling for decades, and whose roots lie deeply in the city of Milan.

As soon as you enter one of Aldo Coppola’s salons, you find yourself in a sophisticated environment where you can enjoy truly tailor-made treatments: from personalised cuts to styling, from the most fashionable colours suited to your face to customised make-up. But that’s not all, because you can also enjoy a real spa service, with exclusive treatments for your hair and skin.

How did Aldo Coppola’s success begin?

Aldo Coppola started his career in the early 1960s and soon became a true reference point for styling not only in Milan, but also globally.

His collaborations with the international fashion scene were legendary (he created stunning hairstyles for fashion designers’ catwalks, including Giorgio Armani’s).

And if you’ve heard the word “shatush”, well, this technique was invented by Aldo Coppola and you can of course try it at one of his salons. But what is shatush, exactly? It’s a unique hair colouring method that mimics the way sunlight naturally lightens your hair, for a perfect sun-kissed look.

How does shatush differ from traditional highlights?

From a technical standpoint, it involves backcombing sections of hair before applying colour, allowing for a seamless transition between shades. The result is softer and more subtle than the one obtained with traditional highlights, and maintenance is easier.

Following the success of this technique, Aldo Coppola created a product line specifically aimed at protecting and nourishing “shatushed hair” (not an actual term, but you get my drift), preserving its colour. The name of the line? Shatush, of course. It includes shampoos, masks and other treatments.

It’s worth mentioning that Aldo Coppola’s innovations in the field of hair-cutting are also outstanding (amongst others, he invented the “crochet” technique). Unsurprisingly, he’s often been defined as the “master of trendsetting creativity”.

Milan ‒ the city where Aldo’s success began ‒ is home to the largest number of Aldo Coppola boutiques. The most recent one? Opened in 2024, it’s located on the quiet and elegant Via Cerva, in the heart of the city (the photographs in this article refer to this boutique).

This boutique is a 300 square metre space spread over three floors, characterised by the use of natural wood combined with red colour accents.

According to several studies, wood has a positive impact on people’s wellbeing with beneficial effects on an emotional level. The wood used in this boutique is reclaimed lumber derived from oak poles found in the Venice lagoon.

And there’s more, because the boutique in Via Cerva even offers Pilates and Yoga private lessons. Because wellbeing, at Aldo Coppola salons, is truly holistic.
