If you have a refined palate, you cannot miss the most traditional temple of Milanese gastronomy where you’ll find the very best food in Milan. I’m talking about Peck.
For more than a century, Peck has been the destination of choice for the discerning Milanese, and more recently even for tourists in search of the most exquisite Italian taste.
Located in the heart of the city, just a short distance from the Duomo, the store is impressive in size: 3,300 square feet over three floors, and the kitchen is 21,527 square feet.
A veritable paradise of gastronomic delicacies that will make you understand why Italy has always been considered one of the countries (if not “the” country) with the best food in the world, starting from its top quality ingredients.
Peck is convinced that one of the real secrets behind its long-standing success is precisely the superb quality of the ingredients.
Unsurprisingly, every single producer Peck sources its “raw materials” from is known by name, testifying to a relationship of mutual trust that has lasted for decades.
These “raw materials” are then artisanally processed with high-standard techniques in Peck’s “laboratory” and kitchen.
Faithful to a tradition that dates back to 1883, Peck has nevertheless always been able to keep up with the times and the needs of increasingly informed consumers.
As you stroll along the alleys of the store, browsing through the shelves, you can admire Peck’s almost endless display of products.
One of the most renowned sections of the store is the iconic deli counter, with wonderful delicacies such as Russian salad, veal with tuna sauce (vitello tonnato, in Italian), bresaola made with Bavarian beef, lobster in cocktail sauce, pate, but also a selection of cured meats like Parma ham or Iberian hams and the in-house made bresaola. Just as amazing is the selection of cheeses, including mozzarella, burrata, mascarpone, ricotta and, of course, also the super-famous Parmigiano Reggiano, coming from top suppliers who have collaborated with Peck for years and always select the best Parmigiano wheels.
At the store’s ready-made dishes counter you can find scrumptious recipes ‒ starters, main courses and side-dishes ‒ created daily in Peck’s kitchen: for example, Milanese mondeghili (traditional fried meatballs, which were once a typical “poor” dish, but have now been elevated to the status of gourmet food), Milanese cutlet and lasagna.
But Peck is much more, because there’s the bread and pasta counter, the jarred food counter, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables, all kinds of meats, patisserie and ice-creams (which are of course produced by Peck’s artisans), and a wonderful selection of coffee and tea varieties.
Last but definitely not least, Peck’s wine section. Majestic and elegant, it offers 3,000 labels from the finest Italian and international wineries, including rare bottles that are perfect for enthusiasts and collectors. A really special place, where Peck experts will always give you the best advice, whether you are an inexperienced customer or a wine connoisseur.
And, for a relaxing break, you can try the ‘Piccolo Peck’, a gourmet café and bistro in the heart of the store.
